SHERRY A. WELLS STRESSES NEED FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT IN METRO DETROIT

State Rep candidate says “I often ride the buses, especially the FAST ones” and improvement is needed in the 27th district.

Sherry Wells knows that a city does only as well as her people do, but what happens when her people can’t get where they need to go?  The city suffers right along with her people.

The current transit system in Detroit is a mess.  Sherry, who served on the Board of the Motor City Freedom Riders, is looking to help them in their goal of gaining rapid and reliable regional transit throughout the area, connecting Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, and Macomb Counties.  Sherry also designed and had printed--union printer!--six signs promoting SMART bus-riding and used them to promote the millage that passed in 2018. The idea that we can get more cars off the streets means wear and tear on the already poor condition of Michigan roads.  Less wear and tear equals less construction too.

“Expand a transit system, especially in the Metropolitan Detroit region, to get people to their jobs, to schools and medical appointments which would help reduce pollution, traffic and need for excess parking areas.”

“Voters are talking about issues like infrastructure and public transit development. They are passionate about a 27th District that’s easy for everyone to navigate as we go about our business and our lives.” Wells said. “We can improve our public transit system and strengthen our infrastructure by investing money in public transit, and voters receive a direct benefit from that.”

The Regional Transit Authority has still yet to get the funding to expand and improve Detroit Metros Regional Transit because politicians simply can't get along and come to an agreement to finally address this issue. It has been going on for over 100 years, and as of the 2018 Mileage that was rejected by county executives from Macomb and Oakland counties.

“The push for safe, reliable, and greener transportation is a win for everyone. It could increase jobs in the sector, decrease gas costs for low-income families, and save travel time from the gridlock of the 9-5 we see on highways.  Sherry A Wells will get this done.”
